Pianist/Composer Yumi Kim is a very gifted improviser toward straight- ahead jazz and post-bop hails from Seoul, South Korea, performing in South Korea and the United States.

Attending Berklee College of music, she awarded Berklee achievement scholarship studying with Joaanne Brackeen, Helen Sung, Frank Carlberg, Geroge Garzone. Her great achievements in music led her to the advanced track to reach her music to be creative and bring originality of the Jazz music.

Thereafter attending the Contemporary Performance Master at the Berklee Global Jazz Institute, an honors program for the Performance Division Under the leadership of Artistic Director Danilo Perez. Yumi Kim was chosen for one of twenty students Full-tuition grants awarded from a highly selective pool of candidates. Danilo Perez, John Pettitucci, Terri lyne Carrington, Joe Lovano, had coached her as she explore her creativity to the highest level possible, advance the power of music as a tool for the betterment of society, and connect musical creative thinking with the natural environment.

After completing her bachelor and master programs in Berklee College of Music, she moved to New York to keep growing her music career widely up. She has performed with many great artists as a leader at many jazz clubs. Performing the music from her own style, never stay longer in a level field and turning the page to the next chapter, and try to be competitive in terms of expressing the music from her heart is essential to her.

Her participation at the Dominican Republic Jazz Festival in November 2017 was outstanding in both concerts (one with Anat Cohen and one with George Garzone) so much that both reviews from Jazz Times and Downbeat praised her performance.

Her first quartet album ‘Emergence’ recorded in New York with her production in August 2019 features bassist Ben Street, drummer Adam Cruz and trumpeter Jason Palmer, who are Yumi’s teachers and among the world’s most renowned jazz artists. In the production of the album

featuring four original songs and three standard songs, Yumi’s immense talent in composing and arranging contributed to creating a perfect and beautiful ensemble with the jazz masters.

Yumi is a remarkably mature young woman with a serious outlook towards her work, a natural talent for music. She has been projecting

her Trio and quartet album having a various shows around U.S includes her country.

활동하는 대한민국 서울 출신의 포스트 밥과 스트레이트 어헤드 재즈 부문에 뛰어난 재능을 가진 즉흥 연주자 이다. 그녀는 버클리 음대 재학 시절 조앤 브레킨 (Joaanne Brackeen), 헬렌 성 (Helen Sung), 프랭크 칼버그 (Frank Carlberg), 조지 가르존 (George Garzone) 의 지도를 받았으며 우수한 성적으로 버클리 장학금을 받았다. 이러한 학업적성과는 그녀를 재즈 음악의 창의성과 독창성을 더욱 발전시키기 위한 진보된 트랙으로 이끌었다.
이후에 다닐로 페레즈 (Danilo Perez) 가 감독, 지도하는 현대 음악 우수연주자 석사 프로그램인 버클리 글로벌 재즈 인스티튜트 (Berklee
Global Jazz Institute) 에서 20명에게만 수여되는 전액 장학금 대상에
선정되기도 하였다. 다닐로 페레즈, 존 페티투치 (John Petitucci), 테리린 캐링턴 (Terri Lyne Carrington) , 조 로바노 (Joe Lovano) 등의
스승들로부터 최고 수준의 창의성 탐구, 사회 발전을 위한 도구로서의 음악의 발전, 창의적 음악 사고와 자연 환경과의 융합을 사사 받았다. 그녀는 보스턴에서 학사와 석사 과정을 마친 후 음악적 커리어를 확장 시키기 위해 뉴욕으로 이동하였으며, 많은 재즈 클럽에서 리더 역할을 맡아 뉴욕의 다양한 유명 아티스트들과 함께 작업하며 공연 하였다.
그녀만의 사운드로 연주 하는것 그리고 더이상 레벨 필드에 머무르지 않고 계속해서 다음 챕터로의 새로운 장의 페이지를 열며 나아가는 것, 마음으로부터 우러 나오는 음악을 표현해 내는 것에 관하여 경쟁력을 갖추는 것은 그녀에게 필수 요소이다.
2017년 11월 도미니카 공화국 재즈 페스티벌에 초청된 그녀의 연주 중 특히 아넷 코헨 (Anat Cohen) 과 조지 가르존 (Goerge Garzone)과 각각 합연한 두 공연은 뛰어난 연주 실력으로 미국 최대 재즈 잡지사인 재즈 타임즈와 다운비트로부터 뜨거운 호평을 받았다.
그녀의 데뷔 앨범인 김유미 퀄텟의 ‘Emergence’ 는 세계 최정상의 재즈 아티스트이자 그녀의 스승인 베이시스트 Ben Street 과 드러머 Adam Cruz, 트럼펫터 Jason Plamer 와 2019 년 8 월 뉴욕 현지 녹음, 그녀의 프로듀싱으로 제작 되었다. 네 곡의 오리지널과 세 곡의 스탠다드로 구성된 이번 앨범에서 그녀의 탁월하고 유니크한 작편곡 능력과 연주가 재즈 거장들과의 완벽한 앙상블 호흡으로 아름다운 한 팀의 사운드를 이루어 내었다.
김유미는 타고난 음악적 재능을 바탕으로 자신의 직업에 대한 진지한 고찰을 이어가는 놀랍도록 성숙한 젊은 여성이다. 현재 자신의 고향인 한국을 비롯해 미국 전역에서 다양한 공연을 하기 위한 트리오와 퀄텟 앨범을 기획 중이다.
